Tax Deductions

The Internal Revenue Service “IRS” has ruled that a donation can be written off that is made to an approved public charity based on its support of religion. ForGenerations has made such arrangements through a recognized IRS public charity to do this. The IRS has concluded that donors CAN specify that their contributions be utilized to research along SPECIFIC FAMILY LINES if two conditions exist:

First, the donor has to belong to a church, such as ‘The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), that instructs its members to conduct genealogical research for religious reasons.

Second, the purpose for selecting one specific family line must be to obey the religious teachings of their church to compile genealogical information along family lines in order to conduct bona fide religious rites (such as performing the temple ordinances conducted by the LDS Church). Donors can be assured that 98% of their donations will go directly to the costs of doing the designated research and transmitting the resulting data to their religious affiliation.

A Certification and release form are available through ForGenerations for its clients.

Clients must stiplulate and agree to the following:

My donation is to research the genealogy of:

I hereby certify that I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, hereafter LDS Church (or another bona fide religious denomination or church that instructs its members to conduct genealogical research for religious reasons) and that the purpose of the designation is to comply with the teachings of my church to compile genealogical information along family lines in order to conduct temple ordinances (or other bona ride religious rites taught by my church) which require compilation of genealogical information along family lines. To the extent I am able to do so, I hereby consent to all information I provide, or which is acquired as a result of this contribution being contributed by submissions to the LDS Church.

I DO NOT wish to suggest genealogical research along any specific family line, but intend the __________________________ to be free to select the genealogical lines which will be most advantageous for genealogical research.
